The project NOTHALT offers safe places for children throughout the city

NOTHALT is a project that provides children in situations of emergency, large and small, with advice and assistance in designated stores in Plauen. Civil courage is the simplest and most direct way to protect our children. Many of them do not have a trusted contact person in their environment. We are there for these children. Everyday occurrences that seem minor and harmless to us adults can terrify our youngest ones. A child may not know where to go without a key and tries to kill time in the city or leaves the safe route to school.

Sometimes children find themselves in situations that frighten them.
For example:

  • They have forgotten their keys.
  • They have lost their way.
  • They feel threatened or upset.
  • They don't know where to go.

In moments like these, many children don't have anyone they know nearby. That's when NOTHALT is there for them.

There are currently 45 safe NOTHALT locations in Plauen and the surrounding area. These places are easy for children to recognize. A NOTHALT logo is displayed on the door. It means:

“I can go in here. I am safe here.”

At NOTHALT locations, children can:

  • have minor injuries treated (e.g., get a band-aid),
  • call their parents,
  • wait until they are picked up,
  • calm down and feel safe.

Often, even small gestures can help to alleviate fear and worry.

With the NOTHALT project, we want to:

  • protect children,
  • encourage people to help,
  • and improve the situation of children in the long term.

Civil courage helps – and every helping hand counts.

Become part of NOTHALT

The logo on the entrance door makes you recognizable to children as a helper and signals to them:

“I can go here—I'm safe here!”
